Five in running for A75 roundabout works contract

Five contractors are vying to win a £1.2 million roads contract that will see a key roundabout outside the Dumfries & Galloway Royal Infirmary in Scotland upgraded.

The upgrade to the Garroch roundabout on the A75 will ensure better managed traffic in and out of the new £200m 350-bed hospital complex, while keeping traffic moving along the route.

Scottish Transport Minister Keith Brown said: “When complete, the new district general hospital will bring enormous health benefits for the area, but it is crucial the traffic around the new complex is managed well. We recognise this which is why we are working closely with the Dumfries and Galloway Health Board to ensure good access to the new hospital facilities without impacting unnecessarily on traffic passing through the area.”

The contract will be awarded in May with around a six month works programme to follow. The revamped roundabout is expected to be in place by the end of this year, ahead of the start of construction of the new hospital in 2015.
